Failed Participation
Together with urbanist Jennifer Aksu, I’m running a series of events exploring failure in participation processes, from art and theater to urban planning and the media landscape.
Can we still learn from the failures of participatory culture or is it already too late? Is failure inherent to participation? What happens when the project of participation itself fails in society? What recurring descriptions of failure can we identify across disciplines?
For a conversational format at Volksbühne’s Grüner Salon, we invited Eva Plischke (theater maker, Turbopascal), Dominik Rzepka (journalist for a major German TV broadcaster) and Mareike Witt (initiator 100% Tempelhofer Feld) to talk about moments of failure in their respective fields.
This post by Katrin Bettina Müller (in German) gives a some great context of our thinking so far.
